Chapter 1

Chapter 2: The Last Place She Lived The next morning, the millionaire canceled every meeting.

Every appointment. Nothing mattered anymore. Accompanied by the boy, he drove across the city following the address written in Clara’s final letter. The neighborhood grew poorer with every mile. Eventually they stopped in front of a small apartment building with cracked walls and broken windows. The boy looked away. “This was home.” The millionaire felt sick. Clara had lived there while he spent millions on luxury properties. Inside the apartment, everything remained exactly as she left it. A worn couch. A tiny kitchen. Faded photographs covering one wall. The millionaire slowly approached them. Every picture showed the boy growing older. First steps. Birthdays. School awards. And in every single photo, one space remained empty beside Clara. A place clearly meant for him. Tears blurred his vision. Then he noticed a notebook sitting on the table. Clara’s journal. He opened it carefully. Page after page described her attempts to contact him. Her hope. Her heartbreak. Her determination to protect their son. Then he reached the final entry. The date was only four weeks old. If he ever finds our son, please tell him I forgave him long ago. The millionaire collapsed into a chair. Because Clara had forgiven him for a betrayal he never committed.
