PART 3: The Truth Arrives Before the Police

The old man gripped his son's wrist.
"No."
His voice was weak.
But certain.
"You don't leave again."
The son smiled sadly.
"I don't have a choice."
Outside...
Police sirens echoed through the storm.
Blue lights reflected across the diner windows.
The quiet couple in the corner exchanged nervous glances.
Emma stepped toward the front door.
Three police cruisers stopped outside.
Officers entered carefully.
Hands near their holsters.
The lead detective looked directly at the son.
"We've been looking for you."
The son slowly stood.
Hands visible.
"I'm not running."
Before anyone could place him in handcuffs...
An older detective pushed through the crowd.
He stared at the suspect's face.
Then frowned.
"What did you say your name was?"
The son answered with the name he had abandoned years ago.
The detective's expression changed instantly.
"I remember this case."
He turned toward the younger officers.
"Wait."
